Career Success Plan : To earn a job in local market

"I wanted to tell new comers that a college diploma and high GPA alone are not sufficient for success in highly competitive fields. A strong work ethic, problem solving abilities and leadership capabilities are also critical. Under the guidance of Success Mentors professionals, you will attain the confidence to dream, to challenge, maybe to fail but also to persevere until you succeed."

Goals: Students will graduate with honor from their US colleges, have learnt a trade to survive the job market, and they also boast the cross culture communication and leadership skills to thrive a diverse team within the US context.

Do you know?

Rule 1: In the United States, the college or career planning is a four year process. Students need to set goals up to the recruitment requirements of their evaluators - either being human resources managers or college admission officers at graduate schools, and walk their action plans towards those goals.

Risks: Employers or admission officers will judge students on their individual merits in a holistic way. The last minute rush with outright lies on activities or achievements on the resume do not work it out, seriously!

Rule 2: In the United States, students need to learn to comply with rules of law and live up to local norms, if they want to be considered and assessed positively. It is critical and essential for international students to bridge their home country values into the local culture, being able to work in a diverse team, resolve conflicts and capitalize the culture differences.

Risks: International students will be wiped out if they don't have the right skills, or if they are unprepared culturally or without the "right" attitudes, when they compete with local students for the limited job offers.

Rule 3: In the United States, international students may not be able to rely on the alumni network, which is prepared primarily for local students. International students need a referral network that understands their needs and works for them. Empirical evidences tend to suggest that Chinese students are more likely to follow the footsteps of other Chinese. Successful Chinese Partnership, hosted by Success Mentor, provides a platform as such and has a far reaching impact on students' success in career development.

Risks: Chinese students tend to work harder, not smarter and therefore, come up with mediocre results.

Conclusion: Learn to work smarter, play by the rules and know how to leverage the rules towards your career success.
